Changing lives for the better

Changing lives for the better

Working at Challenge Recycling, Narrabri has been a positively life-changing experience for Marie Hatch.

The expression ‘life-changing’ is often overused but Ms Hatch’s job really has changed her life, and for the better.

“I have more choice in my life and my standard of living is higher because I choose to work and train to improve my skills,” said Ms Hatch.

Ms Hatch receives the disability pension but with the help and support of Challenge now works four days a week at Challenge Recycling.

“I like my job and I like working here. If I didn’t have my job, I wouldn’t be able to run my car and go and visit my grandchildren in Manilla or afford to go out for tea,” said Ms Hatch.

“My work has given me independence and it’s also helping me overcome my depression because I get to do a lot more.”

Ms Hatch takes great pride in her work and it’s clear she feels empowered to be employed, working with a great team and developing new expertise every day.

Manager Tony Clare has supported Ms Hatch to her current position as team leader.

Ms Hatch has been employed by Challenge Recycling for 12 years and has obtained her forklift ticket and Cert 3 in disabilities.

She takes part in administration training every Monday and completes timesheets and rosters.

“I have enjoyed seeing her grow,” said Mr Clare.
