We’re Stepping Up for STEPtember!

At Challenge Community Services, we’re proud to be stepping up this September to support the Cerebral Palsy Alliance in its mission to help people with cerebral palsy live their best lives.

What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a lifelong condition that affects movement and posture. It’s caused by damage to the developing brain, often before birth, and can result in a range of physical challenges, including difficulties with coordination, muscle control, and motor skills. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, impacting about 1 in 700 Australians. While there is no cure, early intervention and ongoing support can significantly improve quality of life, helping individuals with CP lead fulfilling, independent lives.

This is where the Cerebral Palsy Alliance steps in, offering essential services, research, and advocacy to support those living with CP. Their work is transformative, providing access to therapies, equipment, and programs that empower individuals with CP to reach their full potential.

How does STEPtember help?

That’s why STEPtember is such an important initiative—and why we at Challenge Community Services are so excited to participate.

STEPtember isn’t just about taking steps; it’s about making strides toward a better future for people with cerebral palsy.

The challenge is simple: aim for 10,000 steps per day throughout the month of September. But don’t worry—there are plenty of ways to reach that goal. With over 40 activities that can be converted into steps, you can tailor the challenge to fit your lifestyle. Whether you enjoy running, gardening, dancing, or wheelchair sports, there’s a way for everyone to get involved.

Not only does STEPtember encourage physical activity, but it also brings people together for a common cause. Every step contributes to raising funds that support the invaluable work of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance. These funds go directly towards providing critical services, such as physical therapy, mobility aids, and cutting-edge research aimed at improving the lives of those with CP.

How Challenge is getting involved

At Challenge Community Services, we believe in the power of community and collective action. By participating in STEPtember, we’re not only challenging ourselves to stay active but also showing our commitment to making a real difference. We’re excited to see our team come together, take on this challenge, and support an organisation that means so much to so many, including many of the people we support.

Through our comprehensive disability support services, funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), we provide tailored assistance to people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Our services range from supported independent living and community participation to therapy and employment support, all designed to enhance the quality of life for our clients.

Our team works closely with individuals and their families to create personalised care and support plans that align with their unique needs and goals. Our support services are here to help individuals with CP navigate their everyday lives and achieve their aspirations.

We invite you to join us on this journey. If you’d like to join our team and getting moving alongside us or make a donation, you can do so via our STEPtember fundraising page. We’ve grouped up teams within our business divisions to engage in a little friendly competition to see who can raise the most money and complete the most steps by the end of the month. We’ve also offered up a little bonus incentive for the teams who come up with the most creative way to get moving, so make sure you follow along to see which team will reign supreme!

Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community for those living with cerebral palsy.

So, lace up your shoes, get moving, and let’s make every step count this STEPtember!
