Services anticipate long-term change following NDIS launch

Disability services providers in Orange are getting used to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which was rolled out on July 1.

Among the changes is an anticipation that more workers will be required due to a prediction that 27,793 new disability sector positions will be needed in Australia in two years time.

Challenge Disability Services in Orange has 22 clients and five staff members who provide a day program and support services, and expects to be among those requiring more workers.

Challenge senior manager Maxine Smith said the service has required more workers for its Central West branches for years to meet the demand of participants’ requests.

She said although there might not be a change in the short term, participation levels could further increase from next year.
