A MINI fete will be held in Tamworth this week in a bid to give local foster children the chance to live their Disney dream.
Connexions, an arm of Challenge Community Services, will host a mini fete on Friday, July 21, to raise money to help send a group of foster children to Disneyland in the United States.
The fete will be held at the Challenge Disability Services Connexions building at 14 Patterson St from 10am until 2pm.
There’ll be plenty of fun and games including raffles, a karaoke competition, egg and spoon races, a photo booth and more. Guests are also urged to come along in their pyjamas and enter in a pyjama fashion on the fields competition with prizes to be won.
Organiser, Tanya Harris of Connexions has urged community members to come along.
“We’re trying to raise some funds for the foster care kids,” she said.
“These guys have had a rough start and aren’t as fortunate as us or any of the guys so we just want to help them out.
“They’re trying to take a group to Disneyland which will be wonderful for them. “We’re trying to get the community to get behind us and raise some funds.”
Ms Harris thanked local businesses for their support and hoped others could donate a service to the cause such as face painting.
The fundraiser will benefit seven foster care children from Tamworth and Armidale who will head to Disneyland in November.
Challenge currently has 50 children in foster care in Tamworth over 42 households. The organisation says more carers are needed and has encouraged those interested in caring for a child to contact their office.
“Challenge Foster Care are currently looking for foster carers who can look after sibling groups,” Northern region manager Julie May said.
“We endeavour to keep siblings together in foster care, as it heartbreaking for brothers and sisters to be separated.”
“We would love to hear from people who are passionate about making a difference and who are able to keep these children together.”
