Growing together in Quirindi: Planting trees, building community

There’s something powerful about coming together with a shared purpose. Recently, our team joined forces with Liverpool Plains Shire Council and Tamworth Regional Landcare Association to plant 96 native  river red gums along the creek in Quirindi. While the trees themselves will one day grow tall to provide shade, habitat, and beauty, the real story is about the collaboration and community spirit that made the day possible.

Planting more than just trees

On the day, shovels hit the soil, seedlings were carefully placed, and hands of all ages pitched in to get the job done. But it wasn’t just about the work — it was about connection. Side by side, our team worked alongside council staff, Landcare members, and community volunteers, sharing stories and laughs as each tree went into the ground.

By the end of the day, 96 young gums lined the creek bank, ready to grow into a living reminder of what can be achieved when people and organisations come together with a common goal.

Why collaboration matters

Collaboration is one of our core organisational values. The planting day wasn’t just about caring for the environment, it was about strengthening the bonds within our community. Every partnership and every collaborative project helps people feel connected to where they live, and reminds us that we all play a part in shaping the places we call home.

Working with Liverpool Plains Shire Council and Tamworth Landcare showed just how much we can achieve when we combine resources, knowledge, and passion. The project was a true example of local organisations coming together to make a positive difference for everyone.

Supporting people to thrive locally

At Challenge, supporting people to live and thrive in their local communities is at the heart of what we do. Our community support programs are built on the belief that everyone should feel connected, valued, and empowered to participate in activities they love in the regions where they live. You shouldn’t have to move to the city to find support.

Initiatives like the Quirindi tree planting are a natural extension of that mission. They create opportunities for people to get involved, contribute to something meaningful, and experience the pride of working together towards a lasting impact.

Looking ahead

As the gum trees grow, they’ll provide shade, wildlife habitat, and environmental benefits for the residents and animals of Quirindi — but they’ll also stand as a symbol of unity and collaboration. They’ll remind us of the day people came together to invest in their community’s future.

We’d like to thank Liverpool Plains Shire Council and Tamworth Landcare for their support and partnership. It’s always a pleasure and honour to work alongside other organisations who share the same values and help us invest in the many communities we call home.

Together, we’ve planted more than trees — we’ve planted the seeds of connection, resilience, and pride in community. And just like the gums, we know these seeds will grow strong for years to come.
