Challenge Disability Services in Trangie host fun day for Autism Awareness month

April marks Autism Awareness month, where diversity is celebrated and inclusion is embraced.

On Wednesday, April 10 the team from Challenge Disability Services in Trangie held a community fun day to promote understanding and bring the people connected to disability together with the community.

The group embraced coloured puzzle pieces as part of the celebrations, to symbolise the complexity of the autism spectrum and the diversity of the people living with autism across the country.

Everyone wore their brightest colours and biggest smiles with money raised for new sensory equipment for the Trangie community.

According to Autism Spectrum Australia, an estimated one in 70 people has autism, which equates to almost 230,000 Australians.

Autism is a spectrum disorder, which means that each person has a distinct set of strengths and challenges, which include difficulty with social communication, social interaction and restricted or repetitive behaviours and interests.
