Voting is set to open for the 11th Annual Challenge Community Services Art Competition, with members of the community encouraged to visit the Ray Walsh House in Tamworth or the Challenge Facebook page and show their support for local artists by voting online.
The free Art Competition provides all people with disability and children in foster care across NSW, an opportunity to express themselves through art. The competition offers more than $3,000 worth of prize money with prizes awarded to the winning artist in each age group.
Challenge Community Services CEO, Barry Murphy says, “The art competition came about when I was visiting sites years ago and noticed we were holding really popular art classes. The quality was wonderful and the works showed real talent.”
“I asked the staff; Why don’t we run a ‘little’ competition between our clients? Now 11 years later, we celebrate the talents of not only our clients but people with disability and young people from all over New South Wales, from all other organisations.”
The 2019 theme “Under the Sea”, encouraged artists to be inspired by whimsical sea creatures, tropical reefs and underwater landscapes with submissions consisting of paintings, drawings, and photography pieces.
Voting will commence Tuesday 3 December, with members of the community encouraged to visit the Challenge Community Services Facebook page to vote for their favourite submission.
Votes can also be cast in person from 3 December till 10 December at Ray Walsh House with winners announced at the presentation day ceremony on 17 December 2019.
Artworks will be on display at the Community Space Gallery, Ray Walsh House until 6 January 2020.
