Work Health Safety Manager
Tamworth
The Role
You will manage our WHS program, building of the strong safety culture adopted by our employees, whilst maintaining compliance of Challenge Community Services Health & Safety Management Systems. By building strong relationships through visible safety management and influencing others to adopt proven principals, you will assist Challenge to ensure all employees to work safely and remain uninjured in the workplace.
You will develop/embed, maintain and review relevant systems, policies and procedures. A key aspect of this role is keeping up with changes and providing advice and recommendations to stakeholders to ensure compliance.
Role Responsibilities
- Negotiating on significant matters with senior Managers and Executives of Challenge and SafeWork NSW & SafeWork QLD as required.
- Managerial and Budgetary control over the WHS, return to work & wellbeing.
- Establishing Challenge’s WHS management systems and oversee auditing against NSW & QLD legislations and regulations of codes of practice and Challenges Policies & Procedures.
- Development of relationships with key stakeholders and maintaining their advocacy
- Researching & recommending technologies/systems to improve compliance and reporting of WHS incidents / investigations and RTW wellbeing incentives
- Providing strategic advice to ensure reduction of risk and improve compliance with WHS/RTW legislation in NSW & QLD.
Essential Criteria to be successful in the role
- Relevant Qualification
- Significant WHS management experience (5+ years)
- Proven experience and achievement of embedding a ‘safety first’ culture via influencing of senior managers
- Expert knowledge of contemporary safety issues, contemporary practices and the statutory and regulatory framework (across NSW and QLD)
- Understanding of the regulatory environment and public policy of the Disability and Foster Care sectors
- Demonstrated ability to coach and manage a small team
- Outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills including skills in consultation, facilitation, negotiation and capacity to interact with Senior Managers and represent Challenge professionally in external contexts
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience
- Good computer literacy including Microsoft products and the use of Excel as an analytical tool.
- Hold a current Driver’s Licence, NDIS Workers Check, Police Check and Working with Children Check.

Work Health Safety Consultant
Tamworth
The Role
The WHS Consultant will consult, advise and work in partnership with all staff, employees and key stakeholders across the organisation to create a safer work environment. You will promote a continuous improvement culture and implement best practice systems within the workplace.
- You will be responsible for the establishment of risk assessment and safe operation procedure review process, ensuring they are current and in line with best practice methods
- You will Coordinate the organisation’s Covid 19 response and WHS initiatives to minimise organisational safety risks
- You be required to maintain a record of observations, WHS audits, Corrective Action Requests and Opportunity for Improvements
- You will be required to collaborate with other key stakeholders to support staff and employee safety and wellbeing
Essential Criteria to be successful in the role
- Cert IV WHS minimum qualification
- Minimum of 3 year’s experience as WHS specific role
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships internally as well as externally
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of WHS legislation and principles
- Proven knowledge and implementation of Safety Management Systems
- Excellent skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning, communication and organizing along with the ability to positively influence improved Health and Safety outcomes.
- Unencumbered Australian driver’s license
- Working with Children’s Check Clearance and Police Check
- NDIS Worker Check
- Covid 19 Vaccination
- Travel between sites throughout NSW & Brisbane
Desirable Criteria
- Lead Auditor Qualification
- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
- Experience in Not for Profit Sector
- Investigation qualification
