Gabby has been with our team for several years, and brings with her a wealth of experience and insight. Having worked in the industry for over a decade providing services to clients from many different walks of life, Gabby now leads a team of Allied Health professionals in Sydney and the Illawarra to do the same for our clients in Supported Independent Living and the staff who support them.
When we asked Gabby the reasons she enjoyed working for Challenge she told us that the diversity of clients and flexibility or work is what drives her.
“Our work environment is incredibly flexible and goes beyond the typical idea of therapy like sitting in two chairs talking about ‘feelings or dreams’. We get to work with clients to help them understand themselves, train staff in providing tailored support to clients, and work one on one with clients to increase their skills of independence.” Her commitment to Person Centred Practice is just one of the many reasons why we’re proud to have Gabby as a Team Lead.
“Every day is always different and challenging which is why this field is so much fun to work in.”
One of the most important parts of working in the care and services industry is ensuring that our clients are being treated fairly, respectfully and living life to their fullest capacity.
“I’ve learned that our job is not just about counselling people. It’s about advocating and fighting for a client’s rights and ensuring that they are living the best life that they can. It’s about educating new support workers in this field to gain a deeper understanding of our clients and removing the stigma from mental illness, and being creative in the ways that we assist our clients.”
It’s exactly this kind of passion we seek in our team members as we move forward with our mission of creating a world where everyone belongs.
“Challenge is an excellent company to work for as it was founded originally by parents who had children with disabilities but there was no service available to them. That mindset is still there today in that we strive to make sure all clients are given the best opportunities in life. Having a career in this field can be so rewarding from the smallest of incidents and knowing you are making a positive impact on someone’s life”
Caring careers don’t just change the lives of those we help. Working in the care services industry is rewarding, challenging and different every day. If you enjoy building relationships with people and getting out from behind a desk, we want to hear from you.
