SIL Vacancies in Aberglasslyn Shared Home

If you have an intellectual, physical, or psychosocial disability and you are unable to live independently, Supported Independent Living (SIL) could be the right choice for you.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support where you can live with other people with a disability or on your own. You will also receive support with everyday tasks like cleaning, cooking, and personal care.

About the Home:

The home is located in a new, quiet neighbourhood in Aberglasslyn with lots of walking paths and community spaces close by. The home features 3 client bedrooms, 2 separate living areas which offer spaces for entertaining and relaxation, and a modern kitchen to prepare delicious meals in style.

The home features the following:

  • Open plan kitchen, family and dining area
  • Separate living room
  • Built-in wardrobes in all bedrooms
  • Covered outdoor entertaining area
  • Split-system air conditioning

 

About the Vacancy:

Number of Vacancies = 2

The current resident is a 41 year old male. He is independent, social and loves to get out an d about in the community. To find out more about Steven, you can read his blog here.

Steven’s ideal housemate would be male or female, with a fairly high level of independence who enjoys actively participating in group activities and the community.

Our team is goal-focused, and we operate to a strengths-based framework, with the main objective of enhancing one’s independence.  We specialize in areas of rehabilitation and community networking, which includes the following:

About the Area

The home is located in a new, quiet and family friendly suburb of Aberglasslyn. You will be close to local shopping complexes with McKeachies run only 5 minutes drive and the large Stockland Greenhills only 15 minutes. There are numerous cafes, restaurants, museums and amenities 5 minutes away in either Rutherford or Maitland. If you’d like to explore your independence, there are numerous bus stops with 10 minutes stroll of the home, which can then bring you to the train station in Maitland.

 

Support and Funding

Challenge provides 24/7 support staff, including overnight sleepovers or active support. Our staff are committed to providing the house members with a high level of support to develop and build life skills including personal care, budgeting, shopping, cooking, maintaining the living environment, and social skills. All house members are encouraged to be active in the local community.

Applicants must have NDIS funding for SIL Accommodation. Challenge residential fees include rent, food, utilities, home maintenance, internet access, basic streaming service, communal appliances, and communal area furniture.
