Planning for the future

Disability Services client Laura was one of our first Tamworth clients in the NDIS and her main goals are to get a job and to live independently in her own home. Laura really wants to enter the workforce and now she has the right supports in place so she can participate in work experience and build her skills to get her job-ready.

Laura engaged Challenge to provide her supports but was sure to do her research first. While she was at school, Laura trialled multiple service providers from the Tamworth area and then chose the service she liked best. Laura decided to work with Disability Service support worker Sharon, who has since taken on a supervisor role.

Laura enjoys spending time with her new support worker, Tania. Most of Laura’s one-on-one support times are during her weekend outings so that she has the freedom to do what she wants to, like go with Tania to the gym or get her nails done. Challenge has helped Laura to become even more independent and allows her to choose the activities she wants to do, when she wants to do them.

About Challenge Community Services

Over 60 years ago we were a small band of parents and friends seeking support services for our children with disability. Today, Challenge has grown to be one of the largest community support services in New South Wales. We provide support to over 2500 people from Albury to Lismore, Sydney, Dubbo, Tamworth and beyond. With over 880 staff, 95 of which have a disability, we strive to comply with and exceed all standards required under State and Federal Acts.
In the spirit of Reconciliation, Challenge Community Services acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this country, and their connection to land, water and community. We pay our respect to them, their cultures and customs, and to Elders both past and present.
